This device apes the original functionality of the hair cells present in the cochlea and converts the received audio signals into electrical impulses and sends them to the brain. Who can get a cochlear implant?
- Adult and children suffering from sensorineural hearing impairment and are unable to hear from both the ears
- Those who suffer from aforementioned condition and want to hear
- Those who have tried other methods but are still unable to hear

What is the Optimum age for an implant?
It has been observed that cochlear implant proves to be a success even if the patient is in his/her adolescence; however, the chances are best if this procedure is carried out at a young age. The best results have been with children below 2 years of age.
